Description
Fallow deer (dama dama) are about the same size as axis deer with coats in different color phases: brown/black, white and spotted. Fallow deer antlers are broad and shovel-shaped with brow tines and usually several points off the palms. Introduced from Europe in the 1920-1930s, fallow deer rut in April and May.
The Hunt
Just like axis, fallow deer also are normally found in herds. They prefer open areas over thick woods so normally the shots tend to be at longer distances.
Guns & Ammo
The same calibers used for red deer, with lighter bullet points (130-150 grains), will work perfectly with fallow deer (30-06, .270, .300 Win Mag, etc.).
